I am using FAMOUS for:
- Investigation of ocean energetics and dynamics as part of the NERC RAPID UK THC model intercomparison project, which aims to understand the reasons for the different responses among AOGCMs of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (or THC) to increasing CO2. As part of this I have written a modset (for FAMOUS or HadCM3) to produce 3D diagnostics of all the terms in the ocean momentum and kinetic energy budgets.
- A study of the response of ocean heat content to volcanic eruptions. Actually I am doing this by perturbing the solar constant, because it is easier than adding volcanic aerosol. I am interested in the timescale of recovery of ocean heat content, following a number of papers that show long persistence of cool anomalies in the deep ocean following large eruptions.
- Simulation of ice-sheet—climate interactions during glacial cycles. My PhD student Oliver Browne wrote his thesis on using FAMOUS-Glimmer to study the last glacial inception.
